“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” ~ Hebrews 10:23-25
Today, I woke up to clear blue skies, icy streets, and cold temperatures–both figuratively and literally. The number of stories about the divisiveness in our country is overwhelming. Pain bleeds through social media posts, live videos, and gathering social awareness warriors marching for others whose voices are being drowned out. There is an “us versus them” mentality poisoning our families, friends, and communities, but there is a way to stop to this amplified “hate.” When we come together to spur/motivate each other to acts of love, both as individuals and groups, we can overcome this pain. If each of us decided to reach out to others each day–whether via email, phone, or face to face–we could impact others in way that could lead to constructive discussions on healing and lifting others up.
Choose this moment to make this your goal each and everyday. Put maximum effort into lifting each other up and serving the community together. Seek to understand a viewpoint you are unsure of. Seek out someone you don’t know much about and gift them with your interest in their lives. Seek to shower others in love even when you are hurting. Coming together in love, the love of Christ, is how we begin to heal and move together.
